Tournament Rules 2007
Format:
3 game round robin.
Four teams will qualify for the semi finals.
Prize Money: Champion $750, Runner-up $500.
Games are played according to the "Official Rules of Baseball" with the following exceptions:
1. Teams must submit their team rosters to the tournament officials prior to the start of their first game. To qualify for the semi-final or final games, a player must have attended at least one of his team's round robin games.
2. Helmets must be worn by all batters and base runners.
3. Any player ejected in a game after the 5th inning is automatically suspended from his team’s next game.
4. Line-ups and batting orders are to be provided to the umpire, opposing team and tournament official scorer at the start of each game. Any team unable to field 9 players within 15 minutes of the scheduled start of their game shall lose by default by a score of 7-0 in 5 innings.
5. Teams should warm-up at least 15 minutes before their scheduled start time. If the previous game is not yet finished, teams are asked to warm-up outside the actual playing field so that games can start 10 minutes after the previous games finishes. Infield practice will not be allowed befor any games.
6. Home team shall be decided by a coin toss at the start of each game. Regular baseball rules apply in determining when the game is won or which runs count, i.e. the bottom of an inning shall not be played if the home team is ahead or takes the lead in their half of the last inning. If, in trying to get to the next inning within the time limit, the bottom of an inning continues after the home team has taken the lead, additional runs scored will NOT count.
7. Any protests resulting from rule interpretations will be dealt with immediately by the tournament official scoring the game. That decision is final. Protests of judgement calls are not allowed.
8. Hurry up rule will be in effect for all games. Whenever the catcher is on base with two outs, the last out will replace the catcher on the bases. Teams are encouraged to hustle in and hustle out to help maintain the tournament schedule.
9. Designated Hitter will be allowed for any defensive player. The player for whom the DH is hitting may only pinch hit or run for the DH, unless the DH has first played in the field thereby erasing the DH role (see rule 10 for exception in the case of injury or ejection).
10. Re-entry of a player who has already been pulled from a game will be allowed in the case where injury or ejection reduces the number of available players to less than 9. The player for whom the DH is hitting may also pinch hit or run for someone other than the DH in this situation, e.g.. the player being DH’ed for may bat for an injured or ejected player other than the DH even though the DH has not played defensively, as long as there is no player available who has not yet been in the game.
11. Format and Tie Breakers:
Round Robin Games:
Games are a maximum of 7 innings. No new inning may start after 2 hours.
(New inning starts the moment the last out is made in the previous inning).
2 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a tie. Mercy rule will apply
if a 10 run differential is reached any time after 5 innings (4.5 innings
if the home team is ahead).
Tie breakers for standings after the Round Robin games, and for standings
to determine 1st and 2nd place semi-finalists:
#1) Two way ties are broken by the head to head game.
#2) Least runs allowed.
#3) Most runs scored.
#4) Least runners left on 3rd base defensively (... then 2nd
base, then 1st base).
#5) Most runners left on 3rd base offensively (... then 2nd base,
then 1st base).
Semi-finals and Finals:
Games are 7 innings with a 10 run mercy rule applied any time after
5 innings (4.5 innings if the home team is ahead). There will be no time
limit.
