In a game the Brewers needed to win help get into the playoffs, the Red Sox battled and battled but came up just short. Serge Bealieu, the Brewers starter, got through the 1st giving up just one hit. In the bottom of the innings, Jon Zywicki led off with a double off the top of the fence in left field and the Jason Krottner cashed him in with a RBI single. The Red Sox struck back right away when Colin Kargus and Jeff Gordon each singled with 2 out in the 2nd. Then Yannick Gosselin hit an RBI single to tie the game. After Pat Donaghue, the Red Sox starter, got through the 2nd easily, the Red Sox took the lead taking advantage of a Brewer error.

In the bottom of the third, the Brewers rallied for 4 runs. Hank Beelen singled to lead off, Zywicki then also singled. Then Matt Beelen attempting to sacrifice the runners over with a bunt, reached base when Donaghue threw it away at 1st base loading the bases with nobody out. Jason Krottner then reached on another Red Sox error as Hank Beelen scored on the play, Dave Rivers then scored another run by hitting into a fielders choice. Frank Macera later hit an RBI single to make the score 5-2 after 3 innings.

In the 4th, the Red Sox didn't score and then the Brewers scored one more un-earned run in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-2. In the 5th, the Red Sox were able to score when Roch Seguin singled and then scored on a wild pitch with 2 outs. Gosselin came in to pitch for the Red Sox in the 5th and pitched a scoreless inning. In the 6th, the Red Sox put together a 2 out rally started by a Gosselin single and Brulet single to bring up Seguin. Seguin promptly hit an RBI single and got to 2nd on the throw home. Eric Brisebois then came to bat and hit a single to right field scoring another run, but Frank Macera threw out Seguin at the plate to preserve the Brewers lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Brewers put together their own 2 out rally with singles from Matt Beelen, and Jason Krottner and then a walk by Dave Rivers. Keith Blouin cashed in the insurance run with an RBI single. Bealieu faced 4 batters in the 7th to complete the game with the Brewers ahead 7-5.
