The Brewers and Kanata Selects hooked up on this Sunday night, with Kanata coming off 2 big wins and the Brewers looking to beat Kanata in the regular season for the first time since 1999. For the Brewers, Mike Gazo started pitching due to the late arrival of the scheduled starter Jason Krottner. Gazo faced the minimum 3 batters in the 1st inning, proving effective in his emergency start. Dave Penni, starting for Kanata, also got off to a good start by only giving up one hit through the first 3 innings.
Krottner came in to pitch in the 2nd inning for the Brewers and promptly gave up 3 hits in a row highlited by Mosely's 2 RBI double to left field to give Kanata a 2-0 lead. Krottner would settle down after this though, giving up just 3 hits for the rest of the game.
Going into the bottom of the 4th down 2-0, the Brewers looked to strike when both Frank Macera and Krottner singled, after Macera got picked off second on a muffed bunt attempt, Keith Blouin hit an RBI double to right center to score Krottner from second. The Brewers went on to strand the bases loaded and go to the 5th down 2-1.
As Krottner continued to cruise, the Brewers looked to strike again in the 5th, loading the bases again with 2 out for Chris Ivany. Ivany then crushed a grand slam over the left field wall to give the Brewers a 5-2 lead. Then after Gazo walked and Matt Beelen reached by error, Joe Beelen singled in Gazo to make the score 6-2.
The score remained at 6-2 for the last 2 innings, as Krottner gave up 2 hits in the seventh but kept Kanata scoreless to get the win.
